The AGM Texas Scramble

Hello everyone,

This is my last report of the year!

Thanks to both Tony Ford and Sean Canham for all their hard work this year in managing our calender of events without hitches!

I hope that all that played this year enjoyed our choice of courses and please encourage any friends you have to join us next year.

Last Thursday after the AGM we played our Texas scramble

The results were as follows:-

The wooden spoon was won by Richard Brown Barrie Ward and Joe Kearns,

Nearest the pin in 2 was Barrie Ward.

The winning team was Sean Canham, myself, Jerry Lee and Robbie Robison.

We enjoyed a lovely breakfast at Tidworth as always and the course itself was equally fun.

I thank you for your donations of £755 for the Andover Crisis Centre and trust that you all have a peaceful Christmas and Happy New Year.

To Bridget and Peter in Australia  I send our best wishes for good health and look forward to seeing you  both on your return next year.

Marlborough Golf Club - 14th November 2022

The Pairs Competition

Hello Everybody,

We had a very enjoyable day yesterday playing for the pairs competition.

Marlborough Golf Club was in great condition and until the last few holes the weather was kind.

I think everyone agreed that the catering was outstanding, so despite some of individual efforts during the day we all enjoyed a great meal at the end of it.!!

So to the results:-

Nearest the pin on 2nd   Calvin Crisp

Nearest the pin on 14th  Barrie Ward

Best aggregate on the par 3's with 11 points was Robin Coupland

In 2nd place for the main competition were Shaun Rogers and Mick Mumford

In 1st place with 42 points were  Peter Portsmouth and Martin Hollis   well done!!

Wooden Spoons kindly and generously donated by Martin Hollis won by Calvin Crisp and Richard Brown.

So now our thoughts turn to the AGM at Tidworth on December the 8th.

This is your opportunity to elect new members of the committee or keep the old ones.

Also to voice your opinions on the courses played this year and any suggestions for how we can have even more fun next year.

We will have a Texas Scramble on the day and hope that the weather is kind.

Tony Ford will be in touch with all the details in due course.

Until then   keep well   and see you on the 8th

Regards

Donnigton Valley Golf Club - 19th October 2022

Hello everyone,

Last week saw us compete for the Autumn Cup at Donnington Valley in Newbury. A course that has been extended over the years and proved to be a substantial test of golf. Not only were the elements, primarily the wind , a difficulty but also a number of holes with exceptionally tight driving!!

Inevitably scores were muted, but for a couple of players who managed to tame the lightning quick greens.

The catering was good and we felt well looked after by Catherine and her team.

 So to the results:-

The guest prize was won by Russell Webber  with 35 points

Par 3 aggregate prize    Jerry Lee

Nearest pin in 2  on 18th     Russell Webber

Nearest pin 15th    Sean Canham

Nearest pin on 11th  Carl Ross

Nearest pin on 9th  Wayne Barrett

Wooden spoon ( kindly donated by Martin Hollis) won by  Martin Hollis!!

3rd overall   Shaun Rogers on countback  with 30 points

2nd overall  Calvin Crisp with  33 points

1st overall and winner of the Autumn Cup with 35 points  Sean Canham   well done!!

I hope that everyone who played, including our guests had a good day, and now we look forward to our pairs competition which is at Marlborough on the 14th November. Its always a great day out so please try to let Tony know your teams as soon as you can, and please remember to invite any guests who have played this year. All are welcome.

So until then,

Keep well and see you at Marlborough

CUMBERWELL PARK 20th July 2022

Hello Everyone,

For those of you who were unable to make yesterday's event, you missed a treat, playing for the Claret Jug.

The organisation at the club was excellent , they run a very slick multi faceted set of 9 hole courses and a challenging 9 hole par 3 course as well.

In the morning there were 6 players who took on the 9 hole par three course. Sean Canham won both the nearest the pin on the treacherous 8th, and the event with

19 points. Tony Ford second, and the rest lagging behind.

In the afternoon we had Ken Sangster as a guest and 12 players therefore contested the yellow and blue loops.

The course was dry however the greens were true and well watered so made for an enjoyable afternoon. The weather was also kind , and although mightily sultry we didn't get wet .

The results were as follows :-

Nearest the pin on 13th        Nic Artiss

Nearest the pin  on 16th        Nic Artiss

Nearest the pin on 24th        Martin Hollis

Nearest the pin on 26th        Ken Sangster

Best aggregate score par 3s  Nic Artiss with 10 points

Guest prize                          Ken Sangster with 22 points

Wooden spoon        Tony Ford  with 24 points

3rd place overall         Sean Canham  with 35 p[oints

2nd place overall        Jerry Lee with 37 points ( cut 1)

1st place overall and winning the Claret Jug was me with a rather embarrassing 43 points ( cut 2)

So as you can see I had a great day.

The catering was excellent and I hope that should we decide to visit again that we can encourage a larger turnout .

Our next event is at North Wilts on August 17th and I hope we get a good response to this one as its a tremendous test of golf. Tony will be writing to you imminently to invite you to join us.

I look forward to seeing you all there and in the meantime enjoy the summer.

A small reminder for all those who have yet to pay for any of events to sort this out with Sean please.

Our next event will be the Captain's Cup  on June 22nd at Newbury And Crookham Golf Club which sadly I will miss due to pre-booked holiday plans, so in my absence Martin Hollis will be acting Captain.

I do hope you will be able to support this event as the course is excellent.
